What does this charge mean?
It is illegal to knowingly commit abuse against an elderly or vulnerable adult that results in serious psychological injury, serious physical harm, or death, or that involves using a weapon. Aggravated abuse is a Class C felony (3-15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine). The offense can be enhanced to a Class B felony if it results in death or very serious circumstances.

(a) A person commits the offense of aggravated abuse of an elderly or vulnerable adult who knowingly commits abuse pursuant to § 39-15-510, and: (A) A firearm or anything manifestly designed, made or adapted for the purpose of inflicting death or serious bodily injury. See Tennessee Code 39-11-106Harm: means anything reasonably regarded as loss, disadvantage or injury, including harm to another person in whose welfare the person affected is interested. See Tennessee Code 39-11-106Person: includes the singular and the plural and means and includes any individual, firm, partnership, copartnership, association, corporation, governmental subdivision or agency, or other organization or other legal entity, or any agent or servant thereof. See Tennessee Code 39-11-106Serious psychological injury: means any mental harm that would normally require extended medical treatment, including hospitalization or institutionalization, or mental harm involving any degree of prolonged incapacity. See Tennessee Code 39-15-501Vulnerable adult: means a person eighteen (18) years of age or older who, because of intellectual disability or physical dysfunction, is unable to fully manage the person's own resources, carry out all or a portion of the activities of daily living, or fully protect against neglect, exploitation, or hazardous or abusive situations without assistance from others. See Tennessee Code 39-15-501(1) The act results in serious psychological injury or serious physical harm; (2) A deadly weapon is used to accomplish the act or the abuse involves strangulation as defined in § 39-13-102; or (3) The abuse results in serious bodily injury. (b) A violation of subdivision (a)(1) is a Class C felony. (c) A violation of subdivision (a)(2) or (a)(3) is a Class B felony.
