Our Removal Policy
TNDocket publishes public records obtained under the Tennessee Public Records Act. We take removal requests seriously and process eligible requests at no cost. We do not charge fees for record removal — ever.
Who Is Eligible for Removal
We will remove your record from TNDocket if any of the following apply:
- Expungement: A Tennessee court has ordered your record expunged under T.C.A. § 40-32-101
- Dismissal: All charges from the booking were dismissed by the court
- Acquittal: You were found not guilty of all charges at trial
- Nolle prosequi: The prosecution declined to pursue all charges
- Judicial diversion: You completed a judicial diversion program and the case was dismissed
- Identity error: The record does not belong to you (wrong person booked under your name)
- Juvenile record: The record pertains to a juvenile that should not be publicly accessible
What We Need from You
To process a removal request, please provide:
- Your full legal name as it appears on the record
- The county and approximate date of the booking
- A copy of the court order (expungement order, dismissal order, or acquittal verdict)
- A photo of your government-issued ID (driver's license or state ID) to verify you are the person named in the record — we will never ask for your Social Security number
How to Submit a Request
Send your removal request through our Contact page. The subject will be pre-filled for you. Include the documentation listed above. We aim to process all eligible requests within 3 business days.
What We Cannot Remove
Tennessee does not have a "right to be forgotten" law for public records. We cannot remove records simply because:
- The booking is embarrassing or inconvenient
- Charges were reduced (but not fully dismissed)
- You completed probation but the case was not expunged
- The booking is old
- You have not been convicted yet (the case is still pending)
If your case resulted in a conviction that has not been expunged, the booking record remains part of the public record under Tennessee law. We encourage anyone eligible for expungement to pursue it through the Tennessee courts.
Expungement Resources
If you believe you may qualify for expungement in Tennessee, these resources may help:
- Tennessee Bureau of Investigation — Expungement Information
- Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee — free legal assistance for qualifying individuals
- Your county court clerk's office — for filing expungement petitions
Timeline
Once we receive valid documentation, removal is typically completed within 1–3 business days. Removed records are permanently deleted from our database and will not reappear.
