What does this charge mean?

It is illegal to use coercion, threats, or intimidation to influence or attempt to influence a juror in how they vote or perform their duties. A conviction is a Class E felony punishable by 1-6 years in jail and up to $3,000 in fines.

(a) A person commits an offense who by means of coercion: (A) Commit any offense. See Tennessee Code 39-11-106Juror: A person who is on the jury.Person: includes the singular and the plural and means and includes any individual, firm, partnership, copartnership, association, corporation, governmental subdivision or agency, or other organization or other legal entity, or any agent or servant thereof. See Tennessee Code 39-11-106(1) Influences or attempts to influence a juror in the exercise of the juror’s official power or in the performance of the juror’s official duty; or (2) Influences or attempts to influence a juror not to vote or to vote in a particular manner. (b) A violation of this section is a Class E felony.
