What does this charge mean?

It is illegal for businesses that sell speed-detection devices (like radar detectors) to pay someone's traffic ticket if that person bought one of their devices. You cannot offer to pay or actually pay a traffic citation for a customer who purchased a radar detector or similar device from you. This is punishable by a fine of up to $500 with no jail time, and each day you violate this counts as a separate offense. ---

(a) It is an offense to offer to pay or to pay a motor vehicle traffic citation of any person who purchased any device or mechanism, passive or active, to detect or purposefully interfere with or diminish the measurement capabilities of any radar, laser, or other device or mechanism employed by law enforcement personnel to measure the speed of motor vehicles for law enforcement purposes. (b) This section shall apply only to persons and firms that sell or lease devices or mechanisms that detect or purposefully interfere with or diminish the measurement capabilities of any radar, laser, or other device or mechanism. (c) A violation of this section shall be a Class B misdemeanor punishable by a fine only of up to five hundred dollars ($500). Each day a violation occurs constitutes a separate offense.
