What does this charge mean?

It is illegal to knowingly possess, sell, distribute, or transport into Tennessee a child-like sex doll (a doll, mannequin, or robot designed to look like a minor and intended for sexual purposes). Simply possessing one is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to 11 months and 29 days in jail and a fine up to $2,500, while selling, distributing, or transporting one for sale is a Class E felony with a mandatory fine of $10,000 to $50,000 (in addition to jail time). Any fines collected go to child advocacy centers and sexual assault support services.

(a) It is an offense for a person to knowingly possess a child-like sex doll. (b) It is an offense for a person to knowingly sell or distribute a child-like sex doll. (c) It is an offense for a person to knowingly transport a child-like sex doll into this state or within this state with the intent to sell or distribute the child-like sex doll. (d) As used in this section, “child-like sex doll” means an obscene anatomically correct doll, mannequin, or robot that is intended for sexual stimulation or gratification and that has the features of, or has features that resemble those of, a minor. (e) A violation of subsection (a) is a Class A misdemeanor. (f) A violation of subsection (b) or (c) is a Class E felony, and in addition, notwithstanding § 40-35-111, a violator shall be fined an amount not less than ten thousand dollars ($10,000) nor more than fifty thousand dollars ($50,000). Any fine must be paid to the clerk of the court imposing the sentence, who shall transfer it to the state treasurer, who shall credit the fine to the general fund. All fines so credited to the general fund pursuant to this subsection (f) are subject to appropriation by the general assembly for the exclusive purposes of funding child advocacy centers, court-appointed special advocates, and sexual assault centers.
