Form generally

This statute sets out what must appear in an indictment's heading and closing language. An indictment must name Tennessee, the county, and the specific court; state when the indictment was filed; and end with the phrase "against the peace and dignity of the state of Tennessee." This is a procedural requirement with no criminal penalty—failure to comply may make the indictment defective.
