(a) An owner or lessee of a motor vehicle who is a resident of this state and who is certified as a member in good standing of the Tennessee state guard, upon complying with state motor vehicle laws relating to registration and licensing of motor vehicles and paying the regular fee applicable to the motor vehicle and the fee provided for in § 55-4-204, shall be issued a Tennessee state guard special purpose license plate for a motor vehicle authorized by § 55-4-210(c). (c) The special purpose license plates shall bear the official seal of the Tennessee state guard and shall bear the language “Tennessee State Guard” in an appropriate design. The plates shall be designed in consultation with the adjutant general and the commanding officer of the Tennessee state guard. (d) (1) Within thirty (30) days of terminating membership in the Tennessee state guard, a motor vehicle owner or lessee to whom a license plate has been issued pursuant to this section shall surrender the plate to the county clerk of the county of the applicant’s residence. (2) The adjutant general or the commanding officer of the Tennessee state guard shall provide biannually to the department the names and addresses of all persons whose membership in the Tennessee state guard has been terminated during such period, together with such other identifying information as the commissioner may require.
