Aggravated rape is forcing someone into sexual penetration while armed with a weapon, or causing bodily injury, or with help from other people using force—the most serious rape offense. This is charged when rape occurs with additional dangerous circumstances such as weapons, injuries to the victim, or multiple attackers. Conviction carries 15 to 60 years in prison and fines up to $50,000.

It is illegal for an adult in a position of power over a minor (such as a teacher, coach, or parent) to intentionally touch or kiss the minor's lips in a sexual way. The adult must be at least 4 years older, and must use their position of authority to accomplish the sexual contact. This is a Class A misdemeanor with a mandatory minimum fine of $1,000 and up to 11 months and 29 days in jail, with each instance treated as a separate offense.

Penalty: Class A misdemeanor; 11 months 29 days; fine up to $2,500

It is illegal to knowingly possess any image, picture, video, or material showing a minor engaged in sexual activity or simulated sexual activity that is extremely graphic. Sexual exploitation of a minor is a Class D felony punishable by 2-12 years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Each separate image can result in a separate charge. This offense can be enhanced to a Class C or B felony based on factors like prior convictions or the nature of the material.

Penalty: Class D felony; 2-12 years; fine up to $5,000

Sexual battery is unwanted sexual contact (touching of intimate parts or clothing covering intimate areas) accomplished through force, coercion, fraud, or when the victim is mentally incapacitated, mentally defective, or physically helpless. This is the less severe sexual offense not involving penetration. Conviction carries 1 to 6 years in prison and fines up to $3,000.

Penalty: Class E felony; 1-6 years; fine up to $3,000
