It is illegal to knowingly abuse an elderly or vulnerable adult, which includes intentional physical harm or injury. Abusing an elderly adult is a Class E felony (1-6 years in prison and a $3,000 fine). Abusing a vulnerable adult is a Class D felony (2-12 years in prison and a $3,000 fine).
